Fibromyalgia Help
Most patients with fibromyalgia say that their muscles feel like they have been pulled or overworked, and sometimes they twitch or cramp. Even the skin may feel badly sunburned. To help your family and friends relate to your fibromyalgia symptoms, have them relate back to the last time they had a bad flu. Every muscle in their body screamed out in pain. In addition, they felt devoid of energy as though someone had unplugged their power supply.
Fibromyalgia produces widespread pain, disturbed sleep, and exhaustion from head to toe.1 Fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons—the soft fibrous tissues of the body. Although the muscles hurt everywhere, they are not the only cause of the pain. Instead, the diffuse, body-wide symptoms are greatly magnified by malfunctions in the way the nervous system processes pain . Often this pain is enhanced when the body is cold or the mind is stressed.
Regional muscle pain not related to arthritis or the nervous system also occurs in the majority of people with fibromyalgia. Patients describe this as firm knots in the belly of muscles, often causing restricted movement and radiating pain. These muscle nodules are myofascial trigger points and some researchers suspect that these painful areas overlap with the tender points used to diagnose ffibromyalgia but one of the few that I did not experience.
The symptoms of fibromyalgia are unpredictable and most patients are frustrated by their physical limitations and inability to make plans. You may feel as though you have to “push yourself” to get things done. But it is necessary to remember that energy is like money in the bank – you must save it when you have it or it will be all spent. Another thing that happens when you spend your energy is your body thinks “good we can handle the excess toxins now” so it dumps extra toxins into your system. Unless you have access to a detox spa you will be laid up the next day trying to expel what your body has released. Most usual comment is “Wow, what happened? Yesterday I felt great!
Detox, detox, detox – I have been there done that and got the T-shirt. It all starts with detoxing. Although it took me 15 months to come back from fibromyalgia times have changed and that can now be accelerated. Your short term memory will be gone so you must write down or save everything in the computer. Please let me know what questions you have. I don’t want anyone to have to go through this alone.

Hi Rebecca,
Wow, you really explain the challenge people with fibromyalgia have in this post. As you point out, this disease is widely misunderstood. There are theories about it, but it remains a mystery on many levels to medical professionals.
I have long subscribed to the saying, “Energy is the currency of Life.” If you overspend, you will go into energy debt and have those crashes you describe. Unfortunately, stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, and lack of sleep, not to mention other factors, all contribute to ailments that people did not experience when they were younger. Understanding what our choices are is so important when it comes to having optimal health and enjoying a high quality of life!
Thank you for your commitment to this topic, and for writing so passionately about it. I will come back to your blog!
